Brief History of the Barangay
Barangay Ligtong I lies in the coastal area of the town. A long time ago, according to our ancestors, the name of LIGTONG is known as ”LEYTON.” During the time when “OSPITAL NG ESPIRITU SANTO” in Cavite is under construction, the organization of San Juan De Dios is collecting contributions for the hospital. They went to the barrio and accidentally passed nearby the seashore of “ESTANZUELA HACIENDA.” From then, the native men asked what is the use of the hospital? The visitors said in tagalog “LEY IBON NG DIYOS” or for the welfare of everybody. But the only word that stayed in their minds is “LEYTON.” This is the reason why whenever there is someone visiting their place, and thinking that they are begging for contributions, they usually say “LEYTON.” The visitors thought that it is the name of the place. From then on, the place is called as “LEYTON”, and later on, after so many transmission of words and hearsay, the word ”LEYTON” became “LIGTONG”.
By virtue of Ordinance No. 13-1990, on August 30,1990 and followed by the ratification of the barangay, Ligtong is divided into four new barangays which is now known as Ligtong I - the mother barangay, Ligtong II, Ligtong III and Ligtong IV -the newly-created barangay.
Barangay Ligtong I has a total land area of 23.3449 hectares.
Based on the PSA Census 2015, the population of barangay Ligtong I was 4,674 people with a density of 200 per hectare.
