Brief History of the Barangay
The name BAGBAG came from the word KABAG, which means SMALL BATS that grew abundantly in the area of this barrio. As time passed by, it became BAGBAGAN. But the early settlers, having a hard time pronouncing it, changed the name to BAGBAG, which became the official name of the place. This area is a part of San Francisco De Malabon Estate and was established in 1855. Until then, its people had lived in small groups of families and unite in the place, who actually made up the barrio. Sources of food are farms, rivers and an area of several kinds of banana and fruit trees. The people resorted to eating dried assorted fish which they soaked in the Malimango river. The more prudent of them, with a quantity of palay, converted it into rice with adequate reserve and better care of hiding it, so that their neighbors would not know about it and turn the risk of being stolen. Those with money got two gantas of rice for a peso (Mexican) from Lipa, delivered by respectable persons to prevent their way land on the way.
Barangay Bagbag I has a total land area of 24.7939 hectares.
Based on the PSA Census 2015, the population of barangay Bagbag I was 6,070 people with a density of 255 per hectare.
